Deep under South Limburg lie the silted arteries of a once predominant mining industry. Thousands of miners dug for black gold, coal, in the Limburg mining region for three quarters of a century.
Nederlands Mijnmuseum in Heerlen takes you back to the mining past (from 1898 to 1974). In the monumental shaft building of the Oranje-Nassau I mine you get a lively picture of both underground and above-ground life during the mining industry. Historical images, an impressive piece of industrial heritage and personal stories of former miners will all pass by during your visit.
